This book covers many of the fundamentals of Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop is a massive application. although this book teaches mostly fundamentals, it covers ALL of the fundamentals (including the ones Photoshop professionals don't personally use often). This book is a great resource to have lying around to reference infrequently used tools and techniques.
