“Ari is a great character, "fourteen going on forty" indeed. I love the fact that she is smart, and that she has such a wholesome family (if you can say that about vampires). That said, I was disappointed in this sequel. The story seemed to jump around. Characters from previous books reappeared briefly but were re-evaluated dramatically in their short appearances (bad guy = really good! good guy = really bad!) More kids die--which ordinarily would make this a book I'd quit reading--but their deaths are not sensationalized, which I appreciate, but then it was tough to believe that the townspeople would suspect and hate Ari to the extent that they do. And the ending had a "deus ex machina" flavor, with important plot conflicts resolved offstage. The book remains a worthwhile read, and I'm sure I'll read the next installment in this series too . . . but I think book one was better.”
