Undertaker Clara Marsh is much more comfortable with her clientele than she is with the living. When she discovers that a little girl called Trecie has been playing at the funeral home, she's uncomfortable with the idea. Her boss tells her to help the girl, and Clara soon learns that Trecie is somehow linked to a cold case from three years earlier.

Great debut! Style and tone reminiscent of Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn.

The writing style of this book was very abrupt- short lifeless sentences. Since it's a book about death and an undertaker, this was probably intentional on the author's part, but it did not make for an enjoyable read. At times, I was unsure if Clara was falling in love with or terrified of Mike. Though trying to keep herself closed off from emotion and heartache, she comes across very cold an unfeeling- even like a manequin. Again, I am sure intentional on the authors part, but it made it...
