I love this story, especially the "what, what, what!" bit =D

I love otters and I enjoyed the parts about otters. But probably only half the book was about otters. The other half was quite slow. I'm glad I read it, but it isn't a book I got excited about. I definitely know more about otters than I ever did before, though!

Everyone knows what this book is about, but those who read it long ago have probably forgotten precisely why it is such a classic. Maxwell's story is remarkable enough, and the characters of his otters are beguiling in their own right, but these days, there are hundreds of memoirs by people who have had extraordinary relationships with rare and beautiful animals. Most of them are not worth mentioning in the same breath as 'Ring of Bright Water', because it is Maxwell's gorgeous prose style and his intensely observant eye that make this more than just a memoir: it is a magnificent, melancholy hymn to nature.

We were right there! Glenelg, Scotland, the Highlands. Camusfaera, Maxell's home is gone, but the spirit of his book lives on!

A beautiful book about nature and a man's relationship with animals. Good slow-paced reading for when you might be in a more reflective mood, entertaining and moving by turns.

This book sat on my shelf for a decade or two. It's a truly touching and sweetly surprising story about a man and his otter.

This is considered 'young adult'. However, because it's written by a Scotsman, some of the language is a little difficult. It is a wonderful story and I really enjoyed the descriptive passages of living in the middle of nowhere with an energetic otter. These are one of my very favorite animals. River and sea types
