This was a very controversial novel when Kenyan author Ngugi wa Thiong'o published "Petals of Blood" in 1977. So much so that he was immediately arrested, creating an international uproar. The plot involves the murder investigation of three African directors of a foreign-owned brewery. The name of the novel is derived from a red bean flower found by students on a school field study.     I read this book in the university as a requirement for a course called African Novel. It fascinated me a great deal and raised my consciousness about issues related to leadership in Africa, especially the failure of African leaders to make life worthwhile for the people after independence. Unfortunately, the story is still the same all over Africa especially in SSA.
