Masterful writing that explores the relationship between a daughter and her parents, especially her father, in NYC. She captures the nuances of the voices, the rhythms of the family, the fabric of the neighborhood, and the West Indian in NYC culture. The veils of childhood are lifted as she grows throughout this book. I also thought her exploration of religion and what happens to a person who chooses religion over family were spot on.
