Good little mini-story set after His Dark Materials. Just a taster really. You get the feeling from this that Pullman wants to open a whole new can of worms.

Weirdly, I couldn't get into this even though I loved the other books in the series proper.

The story itself wasn't as good as those of the author's "His Dark Materials" books, but I loved the woodcut art and the GORGEOUS map of Oxford inside.

A nice little follow-up short story. Meant more for kids, but okay.

A potential sequel to the trilogy. It is a short story detailing Lyra's encounter and battle with a witch. It leaves several threads unresolved and the narrator has included documents that seem to indicate the need for another more extensive novel. Perhaps one that Pullman plans to write but hasn't gotten to it? Or has he lost his oomph? Please, please, please write more of Lyra Silvertongue!

It was a nice book "outside" of His Dark Materials.

Although I adore the His Dark Materials trilogy, I have to say that this book saddened me a little. It's set after The Amber Spyglass, which I think is Pullman's greatest mistake.

The ending of The Amber Spyglass was perfect really, so to go back into the mind of Lyra afterward feels like he's exploring something that should be left entirely to reader's imaginations, if it should be explored at all.

He is the author though, so it is ultimately his right. Aside from that one gripe, this is a perfectly enjoyable story, written in Pullman's excellent style.
