Well, I finally finished this massive trilogy. I loved a lot of things about it. The story moved in directions that could not be predicted. My only other experience with recent children's fiction is Harry Potter, and those books are very structured. You know the time frame and what to expect (except for the last book). With His Dark Materials though, the plot lead me in directions that were strange and very entertaining.
I found that I liked the second protagonist (introduced in the...

Wow, these books get worse the more you read. How does a person go from leaving one world by a secret gate to 6 months later having a private army ready to go to war with God, and multiple worlds submitting to his will and word?

I need something upon which to hang my suspencion of disbelief, but this is author is too lazy to take the time to give it to me. I finished it, but I wish I could sue for the last time I spend on the last 1.5 books to be given back to me!

No I haven't read the books, which is why I said so. I have seen the film with my kids, and read the thread, so I think that gives me a right to an opinion.

I shall leave you two to massage each others' delicate egos.

I haven't read any of them, but by reputation they are anti-clerical, at the very least, and writers who address children without deference to higher powers and mystical entities deserve a place on the school library shelves.

Both Harvey and Fu-Chu , if indeed these are two separate people, seem happy to dole out a lot of sweeping judgments without the least bit of reference in justification. Quotes, please, gents!
