My only other experience with recent children's fiction is Harry Potter, and those books are very structured. You know the time frame and what to expect...” see full review » see other reviews » |

I thought the 1st book was really good, but I couldn't tell where the plot was going. The 2nd book was okay. The 3rd was fair.”

However, I don't understand why so many religious people got all up in arms about it. It's not the only story out there that attacks religion, and it only really attacks the unsavory aspects of it anyway, the aspects that deserve to be attacked. And, although it depicts the organized church as hypocritical and powerless, the alternative that it sets up in place of it was not compelling in the least. So, great story, unsatisfying ending, unworthy of all the fuss, in my opinion.”
