I didn’t react as positively to this second book starring the seriously disturbed hacker Lisbeth Salander and her off-again boyfriend, obsessive investigative reporter Mikael Blomkvist. Perhaps it was the extremely slow start, the stupid number of product placements (I know this is in Sweden, but the sheer number and detail of the IKEA references is distractingly ridiculous), or the highly improbable coincidences, but I just didn’t feel the characters as well this time around. And Salander is achieving superhero-status, with her stunning physical, mental and intellectual feats, while Blomkvist is more and more off the ball. Still a good story with strong character development and still looking forward to the third installment when it’s released.
