“enjoyed the book.”
Debra V wrote this review Saturday, October 10 2009. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No“Third book in the Black Ops, Inc series. I just can't get enough of this series. And I'm sad that I can't find out when the next book comes out. I think I've gotten spoiled with the first three coming out back to back.
This book is about Johnny Duane Reed, the biggest flirt ever, always out for a good time, but leaves before things get serious. Then there's Crystal Debrowski, a security manager at a Vegas casino who has been having fun with Reed when he comes to town to see Sam (the hero from book 2). But Crystal finds herself in serious trouble when she turns down a high roller at the casino one night. Next thing she knows, she's in trouble at work once counterfeit bills started showing up on her watch. After being abducted by an international crime lord, Reed goes on a dangerous mission to rescue her.
I just love Reed. His big, flirty Texas boy ends up falling in love. But they must get out of Jakarta, uncovering a white slavery ring and arms trafficking with one really bad man. This story is full of action and is very hard to put down. I loved every little thing about Reed and Crystal. Plus, the storyline is definitely one to get your heart racing.
I hope we see more from these guys and soon! Cindy Gerard is definitely one of the best writers for romantic suspense added with the yummiest military heroes and some kick butt girls. Definitely a keeper and I highly recommend it.”
“3 1/2 - 4 stars
3rd in the Black Ops Series. Johnny Duane Reed and Crystal Debrowski.
Johnny is a pretty boy and playboy. Crystal, aka Tinkerbell, is a redheaded pixie who looks like she could be a bimbo, but really has a brain and brawn to go with it.
When Crystal is kidnapped by Yao Long to be his sex slave, Johnny takes off for Indonesia to save her. He is unsure why he is so drawn to her, but he follows along anyway.
Both characters are commitment-phobic, but Johnny more so than Crystal. I'm not sure why other than he just thinks he isn't good enough. Both hide their true-selves behind an exterior that is in contrast to who they really are--Crystal looks like a bimbo, but is strong and smart; Johnny looks like a pretty boy out for a only a good time, but he is kind, compassionate, and caring.
I enjoyed the book, just not as much as the others. I took much longer to read it (almost a week to the normal 1-2 days). I'm not sure why, but I think it is because it felt like in so many places the book could have ended. It had lots of rising and falling in action--just when it seemed it was done, something else would happen. Not bad, just easy to put down.
I still give it close to 4 stars. I'm looking forward to more in this series.”
“I highly recommend WHISPER NO LIES. In comparison with TAKE NO PRISONERS, this story was much more engaging. Johnny Duane Reed is a much more intriguing character than Sam Lang is, IMHO. Crystal Debrowski knows what she wants, and no whining on Johnny's part would change her mind. I really liked that trait in her. What I didn't like was her insistance of being part of the rescues. We are continually told that she is such a capable, kick-ass woman; but then, she ends tied up, drugged and taken prisoner. For the sake of the story, I put that 'harumpf' aside and just enjoyed the ride.”
