I'm not completely convinced of the couple's HEA. Abbie spent 3/4 of the book ragging on Sam for his lies and "use" of her. Yet, he shows her a secluded place to bathe and now he's her main squeeze? Pa-leeze. This couple did not reach out and tug on my heartstrings like Gabe and Jenna did in...

Another enjoyable read from Cindy Gerard.

Sam and Abbie had interesting chemistry, but maybe not enough for the book...this was more of an action book with a little romance mixed in. It doesn't seem like their was as much sexual tension as the other books. The first in the series, Show No Mercy, had lots of tension and really paid attention to the couple. This one mixed in the other characters quite a bit. There were a number of scenes focusing in on the villains.

Some of my favorite parts of the books are the interactions between the team members...each book tells a little more about the other to-be-heroes. This one focused a lot on Johnny Duane Reed as the next hero. Maybe a little more than it should have and not enough on the current hero, Sam.

Overall, a good book...not my favorite so far, but good.

Yet, he shows her a secluded place to bathe and now he's her main squeeze? Pa-leeze. This couple did not reach out and tug on my heartstrings like Gabe and Jenna did in SHOW NO MERCY. That couple engaged my emotions and we stayed with them all the way. When Gabe had to have his let amputated, I shed a tear. Abbie and Sam did not connect with me.

#2 in the Black Ops Inc (BOI) series. Blackjack Vegas dealer Abbie Hughes, brother Cory goes missing. At the same time, a hunky cowboy wanders to her table, and after a long hiatus from men, Abbie is curious & interested in him.

Cowboy Sam Lang has taken a leave from the BOI's, after his sister & brother in law die in a car bombing, a job done by one of Sam's enemies, Frederick Nader. Sam suspects Abbie is in cahoots with her brother, who is working for Nader, and figures he can use Abbie & Cory to seek revenge for the deaths of his family members.

Abbie is trying to find out what happened to Cory, and as she & Sam team up, it doesn't take Sam and his operatives long to figure out that Abbie has no interaction with Cory. Sam, on the other hand, wants plenty of intraction with Abbie.

This is another great addition to this great series. Reason for a 4 star rating - not enough heat between the h/h. The first book was way better, kept me on the edge of my seat. This book was also very good, just not at intense for me.

    10/20/2008 B rating
