- Hal: Twenty-year old Hal lives with some distant relations, whose children he's supposed to start tutoring soon.
- Rook: One of the fourteen Airmen, he rides Havemercy. He's a Mollyrat, grown up without any parents. He worked as a stable boy before Havemercy chose him to be her rider.
- Thom: Thom is a 'Versity stundent, roped into giving the Airment sensitivity courses. He hails from the Molly and struggles to climb up on the social scale.
