This book is not worth it. It is extremely perverse, to a fault. The cut-up technique is interesting and postmodern, but the book itself fails in my mind.

An unnerving tale of a narcotics addict unmoored in New York, Tangiers, and ultimately a nightmarish wasteland known as Interzone, its formal innovation, formerly taboo subject matter, and tour de force execution have exerted their influence on the work of authors like Thomas Pynchon, J. G. Ballard, and William Gibson; on the relationship of art and obscenity; and on the shape of music, film, and media generally.

A mixture of hysteric realism and high postmodernism, this ground-breaking novel leaves its spectators nauseated whether they approve of the novel or not. The language Burroughs uses here is as private and enclosed as Burgess' Nadsat.

I started this but couldn't get more than 70 pages in. Even knowing the background it was too erratic to be interesting.
