This is one of those novels that often generates a "love it" or "hate it" response. Marquez is known for his long, roundabout style of telling a story, which can frustrate new readers. If you choose to imagine the story being told to you in the shade of a tree in a tiny Columbian village over the course of a sleepy Sunday afternoon, then you may appreciate the whimsical tone. I abandoned it. Boring, long; characters ran together. awful. loaned to me by someone who said it changed his life. needless to say, i disagree.
