Yes | No“THE CURSE OF THE HOLY PAIL by Sue Ann Jaffarian ($13.95, Midnight Ink, trade paperback) Second in the Odelia Grey series. Rating B+ Large and lovely Odelia Grey works as a paralegal in a prestigious law firm in the O.C. (Orange County, California), and is adjusting to a new boss. Her new boss Mike Steele is a womanizer, and not the gentleman her old boss was. Steele calls Odelia early one morning, commanding her to stop at a clients office on her way to work to notarize some forms. Odelia complies, as the client is of the old school, a true gentleman. He even suggests messengering the box of papers to the law office so Odelia won't have to lug them. Sterling Price is proud to show off his collection of vintage lunch boxes, including the most valuable ever. Nicknamed the Holy Pail, it is a prototype of a lunch box that was never made. It was to be for the Chappy Wheeler show, and when Chappy died, so did the show and plans for the lunch box. The only lunch boxes forty-seven year old Odelia remembers are the Zorro one she wanted as a child, and the dumb floral one she was given. Odelia is surprised when the papers arrive, and there is a box for her. Sterling had thoughtfully sent her the Zorro lunch box. Odelia doesn't have a chance to thank him before she hears of his death. He died in his office, and at first it looks like he had a heart attack. Soon, it is discovered that he was poisoned by the addition of oleander to his custom ground coffee. To top it all off, the Holy Grail is missing. When the law office is burglarized, Steele is attacked and ends up in the hospital. The damage was mainly to the file room and Odelia's office. It seems the word of Sterling giving Odelia a lunch box got around, and someone suspects she has the Grail. As Odelia's wheelchair bound boyfriend Greg is out of town, she is on her own other than friend Zee, and Greg's dog Wainwright, a delightful Golden Retriever. Odelia is drawn into finding the killer against the police's wishes, if only to keep the killer away from her. When her cat Seamus is kidnapped while her house is trashed, Odelia ends up with Steele on her way to finding the answer to many questions. I have enjoyed both books in the series. Odelia is a resourceful woman, and I didn't chafe at her amateur sleuthing. The book has an inspired cookie recipe. I also agree with Odelia that Alan Rickman as the Sheriff is much hunkier than Kevin Costner in the movie ROBIN HOOD, PRINCE OF THIEVES. I'm hoping the book has a cover with interesting lunch pails on it. ”
