An Arcane Society story. Pretty good but I am not much on paranormal, etc.

I like the magic aspect of the books in this series, and seeing new talents for each character is fun. An enjoyable book, yet I seem to like the historical novels in the Arcane Society series better.

Jayne Ann Krentz can usually be depended on to deliver an entertaining romance, and this book is proof of that. I found that it fell somewhere between her contemporary romances and the sci-fi romances she writes under the Jayne Castle pseudonym. I've read a couple of the Arcane series before, but I think I enjoyed this one more than the others.

This book actually felt lighter than most of her recent books. Not so much intensity. Which isn’t bad, it just isn’t what I’ve come to expect from Krentz. I like her intensity, and when she goes light on it, I miss it. Heroine is another “off the grid” psychic who can...see inside people. She doesn’t read minds, she reads auras. The hero can manipulate auras. They’re after a bad guy, then a bad girl who comes after the bad guy, then... it gets a little complicated. And you know, it wasn’t the suspense plot that lacked intensity. That had plenty. It was the emotional relationship. These folks met each other, they had an instant attraction, they resisted for, like 5 seconds, and then, the rest of it was all external plot. I liked the book. I enjoyed reading it—it’s one of the two I read in my last month before deadline. (Yeah, go figure. Only two.) It was absolutely perfect for that—a fast-moving interesting read that didn’t require too much emotional investment from me.

Pulled the bookmark on this one. Used to like her paranormal books but this one was just too boring to finish.

This is much more of a romance than I would normally read, and there's far too much gratuitous sex in it - but I hadn't read any Arcane Society novels before and I really liked the premise behind that.
