Lucy, a celestial wizard wants to join a guild. She meets Natsu, a fire wizard that learned his magic from a dragon and Happy a magical cat and Natsu's friend. Natsu gets her into Fairy Tail. They go on their first job together to rescue a Fairy Tail member who is missing. When they get back Lucy finds a place of her own and Natsu convinces Lucy to join his and Happy's team.

  • Kyaa: Kyaa is one of the most common sound effects in manga. It's a woman's scream, and it's a sound of either terror or delight.
  • Master: "Master" is an English loan word that the Japanese have added to their language, but like many loan words, "master" has acquired an entirely different meaning than its English one. In Japan, the owner or manager of a bar or other similar establishment is called the master of the business.
  • Neko: Japanese word for cat.
  • -san: The most common honorific and the equivalent to Mr., Miss, Ms., or Mrs. It is the all-purpose honorific and can be used in any situation where politeness is required.
  • -sama: One level higher than "-san" and is used to confer great respect.
  • -dono: Comes from the word "tono," which means "lord." It is an even higher level than "-sama" and confers utmost respect.
  • -kun: Used at the end of boys' names to express familiarity or endearment. it is also sometimes used by men among friends, or when addressing someone younger or of a lower station.
  • -chan: used to express endearment, mostly towards girls. it is also used for little boys, pets, and even among lovers. It gives a sense of childish cuteness.
  • Bozu: Informal way to refer to a boy
  • Sempai/Senpai: Suggests that the addressee is one's senior in a group or organization. It is most often used in a school setting, where underclassmen refer to their upperclassmen as "sempai." It can also be used in the workplace, such as when a new employee addresses an employee who has seniority in the company.
  • Kohai: Opposite of "sempai" and is used toward underclassmen in school or newcomers in the workplace. It connotes the addressee is of a lower station.
  • Sensei: Literally meaning "one who has come before," and this title is used for teachers, doctors, or masters of any profession or art.
