Brisingr is the third book in the in the wonderfully crafted inheritance cycle. This is a series about a young man whose life started out as a simple farmer living in the town of carvahal. He soon was swept off to a life of magic, adventure, and saving the world on the wings of a noble blue dragon named Saphira. This book is full of battles, breathtaking descriptions of magical landscapes, and the pressure of having to save his homeland from an evil tyrant

  • Eragon: The main character, a rash human. The last free Dragon Rider. Last blood relative is Roran his cousin and Roran's soon to be wife Katrina.
  • Saphira: Eragon's large, sapphire blue dragon. A sassy yet comical character. She is the last female of her kind.
  • Angela: A mysterious herbalist who's older than she appears; she can foresee the future, and is frequently accompanied by Solembum the werecat, who she does not own. She loves to be where everything is happening.
  • Arya: Elf and ambassador for the Elves to the Varden. Formerly an Dragon egg courier. Can use magic and is a fierce fighter.
  • Blödhgarm: Leader of the Elves sent to protect Eragon
  • Elva: The girl who Eragon and Saphira accidentally cursed (they meant to bless her but Eragon didn't say the right word so it cursed Elva). She can feel the pain and suffering of others and she is forced to alleviate while it is possible for her to do so.
  • Fadawar: The warlord of nomadic tribes. He is dark skinned, like Nasuada
  • Fiolr: Arya's friend and leader of Sílthrim
  • Galbatorix: The antagonist in the story who also is a Dragon Rider and tries to get the power over all Dragon Riders. More powerful than any Dragon or Rider. He has lived for many years longer than the average human.
  • Gannel: Clan chief of Dûrgrimst Quan
  • Garzhvog: The Urgal leader who now fights for the Varden, against Galbatorix. When Eragon killed the shade Durza, the enchantments over the Urgal's were broken, hence the reason they now fight against the one they used to fight for.
  • Gilderien the Wise: Protector of Elves' home
  • Glaedr: Oromis' golden dragon, who is three-legged (missing one foreleg).
  • Helen: Jeod's wife. She is unsatisfied with the conditions in the Varden
  • Horst: Smith of Carvahall. Travels with Roran to the Burning Plains where the Varden are currently fighting the Empire
  • Islanzadí: Queen of the elves
  • Vermund: a chief of a dwarf clan
  • Jeod: Old friend of Brom's. Wife is Helen. Helped Brom steal a dragon egg from Galbotorix
  • Jörmundur: Nasuada's closest advisor and old friendloyal to Nasuada or leader of the Varden
  • Katrina: Daughter of Sloan and Roran's wife.
  • Lethrblaka: The Raz'acs mounts/parents. They have wings and the cunning of a dragon
  • Murtagh: Once a friend of Eragon's, and was believed to be dead after the battle in Farthen Dûr. He is now a Dragon Rider, with his loyalties sworn to Galbatorix in the ancient language, and is bound to Thorn, a red dragon.
  • Varaug: A Shade created when the Varden attacks Feinster
  • Nasuada: Ajihad's daughter and leader of the Varden. Considers the Varden her family and will do anything for them
  • Orik: The nephew of the dwarf king and a friend to Eragon. Also Eragon's foster brother in his dwarf clan
  • Oromis: Eragon's tutor in Ellesmera, an ancient elf Rider, bound to the golden dragon Glaedr
  • Orrin: King of Surda, and Eragon's clan brother.
  • The Ra'zac: The offspring of the Lethrblaka resembles a human and humans are their prey
  • Rhunön: Elf -swordmaker
  • Roran: Eragon's cousin and Katrina's husband.
  • Sloan: The former Carvahall butcher, and Katrina's father. He betrayed Carvahall to the Ra'zac, and was captured by them, along with his daughter.
  • Solembum: A werecat often seen with Angela. Can turn into boy with knife.
  • Selena: Eragon's and Murtagh's mother.
  • Tenga: Angela's tutor. Eragon finds him during his return to the Varden.
  • Thorn: Murtagh's fiery red dragon; hatched from one of the eggs in Galbatorix's control. His loyalties are sworn to Galbatorix in the ancient language
  • Trianna: A sorceress and learder of Du Vangr Gata
  • Maud: A werecat in Ellesmera. She knows Solembaum.
  • Fredric: the varden's smith
  • Blodhgarm: Eragon's strange elf guard. One of Queen Islanzadi's spellcasters. He uses magic that makes him strangely attractive to women.
  • Hrothgar: the dwarf king, who was murdered by Murtagh at the very end of Eldest
  • Yarbog: An urgal
  • Garrow: Eragon's uncle and Roran's dad who died in the first book.
  • Morzan: Murtagh's father. Servant of Galbatorix. First and last of the Forsworn.
  • Birgit: villager of carvahall
  • Harold: A soldier of the Varden
  • Carn: A magician that is part of the Varden
  • Kvistor: Eragon's dwarf guard.
  • Durza: A Shade killed by Eragon who also inflicted a terrible injury upon Eragon's back in book 1.
  • Brom: Rider before the Fall. Taught Eragon before his death.
