“A funny memoir of Carl's return to the game of golf. Lots of smiles over selecting clubs, balls, equipment, golf partners, and a golf club. His humour is undeniably unique. A good read for a golfer.”

Hiassen is often recommended with me as a very funny author, but I find him only mildly funny. If I want a Florida author that's funny I'll take Dave Barry, or even John D. MacDonald (whose Travis McGee detective novels have their funny bits). Don't let me put you off, a lot of people really like Hiassen and this book makes a great gift for a golfer. Wodehouse wrote a series of golf books too.”

He makes even a potentially dry subject like golf laugh-out-loud hilarious. Written partly as a journal as his own golf come-back and partly as an expose on amateur golf in general, I really enjoyed this book and devoured it in less than a day.”

Just like his adult novels and his children's books, his narrative is enjoyable, and even though I don't play golf I got a big kick out of it! I gave it to my dad for Father's Day because he does play golf.”

Hiaasen's experiences are(mostly) funnier than mine, while displaying a similar level of pathos. I strongly suspect that golfers secretly relish the yin and yang of golf. The book takes you through the best and worst, and while one reviewer thought it was too much self-flagellation, that skill set is common to most of us hackers.”
