One of the more clear cut writings on a piece of his life i actually found this book to be one of my least favorites. It still has its enjoyable parts as any Thompson novel does. It curtails his time as part of the Hell Angels motorcycle gang up until he is "stomped" for an altercation with one of the members.

Good intro to Hunter S. He wasn't quite crazy yet when he wrote this one.

This book makes me want to borrow my Dad's old Yamaha 250 and go for a ride. Forget that. This book makes me want to actually become a competent rider and get a Harley.

The nature of the subject means that there were some very uncomfortable moments while reading this book, but I thought that Thompson did a brilliant job of documenting what makes the Hell's Angels a strange fascination for people. I also thought his conclusion - his falling out of love with the HAs and seeing them quite objectively - was unexpected but brilliant.

Hunter S Thompson was famous for living on the edge, but at times throughout the stories here even he seems out of his reckoning. It manages to debunk so many of the myths about biker gangs, while making the truth seem that much more debauched and dangerous. Almost got him killed by a few Angels, and it's easy to see why. A better starting point for Thompson than the overrated Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Captivating piece of journalism, manages to capture the grit and harsh reality of the angels.
