Cast of Characters/Important People

  • Katniss Everdeen: The narrator of the story and the female tribute from District 12. She is talented at hunting for animals, to feed her family.
  • Portia: Peeta's stylist in the Capitol before the Hunger Games begin.
  • Peeta Mellark: A baker's son who enters hunger Games alongside Katniss, and "Falls in love" with her. He is simple, warm-hearted and pure.
  • Haymitch Abernathy: The last living winner from District 12. He is wasted and drunk, mainly to get over his depression and loneliness.
  • Primrose Everdeen (aka Prim): Katniss' sister. She is, against all odds, picked as the female tribute from District 12 at her first reaping, but Katniss volunteers in her place.
  • Effie Trinket: The escort for District 12. It's her job to draw the names of the two tributes. She dislikes her district and wants to be promoted to a better one.
  • Gale: Katniss' best friend, whom she met while hunting in the forest four years prior to the beginning of the novel.
  • Cinna: Katniss's stylist in the Capitol before the Hunger Games begin. He also becomes a close friend, due to his non-Capitol like behavior.
  • Mrs. Everdeen: Katniss and Prim's mother. Though said to be once very beautiful, she now looks worn and beaten-down, after the death of her husband. She practices healing.
  • Glimmer: The female tribute from District 1.
  • Avox Girl: A red-headed servant in the Capitol who has had her tongue cut out. Katniss recognizes her from the past.
  • Mr. Everdeen: Katniss and Prim's father. He died in a mining accident years ago.
  • Clove: The female tribute from District 2.
  • Thresh: The male tribute from District 11.
  • Foxface: The red-haired female tribute from District 5.
  • Rue: The female tribute from District 11, Katniss' closest ally, who reminds her of Prim.
  • Cato: The male tribute from District 2. One of the Careers who is rather strong.
