When I was much younger I may have become quite interested in this book and series. Unfortunately...

The idea of teenagers being aired live killing each other is grotesque and unnerving. My feelings for this book are very mixed. The "romance" between Peeta and Katniss is sort of odd and made the book more interesting while the threat of death between all 24 tributes made it scary. There was definately action and "edge of the seat" moments. I just think I liked it, but if I was to give a summary of it, other's might think I do not.

Fabulous YA novel with a strong, female protagonist taking the spectacle of the Roman gladiator games into a post-apocalyptic future. I started reading it because it was recommended to me by my sister-in-law, couldn't put it down, ran to the local B&N to buy the sequel only to discover that I was freezing because I'd no sooner gotten back to the car before I'd started reading it! Bummed that book 3 won't be out until August 2010.

I couldn't put this book down. After feeling discontent and let down with the Twilight series (and particularly Bella's character), I was totally thrilled at Collins' character Katniss. She is resourceful, selfless, determined, and devoted to her family and friends; her thoughts and feelings are real, and readers can relate to her inner conflicts, despite their inability to relate to the story and her situation.
