My favorite story in this volume was The Gingerbread Girl; as for my least favorite: several are contenders. When he's not at his darkest, Stephen King can tell a good story.

These short stories are yummy quickies, perfect for plane rides and toilet lingerings.

I used to be a major Stephen King fan, more so with his short stories. So for Willa, Ayana and maybe two others here (definitely not of Curtis and his foray into a packed portable toilet), I give this book 3 stars. It could have been a four, if not for Curtis's story. The end, Mr. King, was a lot of manure. Pun intended (no shit!).

Uneven collection. I liked 4 stories out of 13. Mute, The Things They Left Behind, The New York Times at Special Bargain Rates and A Very Tight Place. The rest were so-so.

I really enjoyed this collection of King short stories. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed reading his short fiction, and there are some really disturbing ones in this anthology.

I highly recommend "Mute," "N." and "Graduation Day." The last story is one of his and one of the best-written and most earnestly horrifying short stories I've ever read. It has the sharp reality of a story by Shirley Jackson and really bothered me.

"The Things They Left Behind" and "The Gingerbread Girl" were also quite good.

"A Very Tight Place" was just a complete gross out -- childish scatology. If you like that, you do. If you don't, you won't.

Good shorts , but not great like his earlier work. Entertaining reading.

More good stories by god old Stephen King -- not as high-tension or horrifying as a lot of his earlier short-story collections, these focus more on old griefs and unquiet spirits.
