“This was the first Robinson book I've read. It was a well-plotted mystery, and the WWII part of the story was particularly interesting to me. However, Det. Banks's difficulties with his wife and son were not important to the story, and the loss of his friend Jem could have been skipped altogether. If it had been pared down to just the murder, it would have been a better book. ”

In A Dry Season is a good book to begin your acquaintance with Peter Robinson and detective Banks. ”
“Alan Banks is a wonderful, realistic protagonist who deals with problems that we all face at one time or another. This is one of Robinson's best, although the whole series is great. A good juxtaposition of wartime Briatin with present day Yorkshire.”

“I enjoyed this story and how it parallels two time periods. I have not read any of Robinson's other stories, but now I definitely want to!”
