it's pretty hard to obtain a copy of this novel which, i think, is the reason why few people have read this. i think it is not important whether you believe in communicating in ghosts, but it's believing that love can conquer even death.

    the best book i've read.........
the love 4 his wife, so subtlely expressed..

whether its communication with d spirits or telepathy this books blends reality with d supernatural...... so well blended i started believing in it........ after all the mind does have such powers.......thoughts, the fastest medium-defies physics....... travels faster than light....

i believe dat he himself had practiced this communication with his beloved wife.......

'The English teacher' was one of the most beautiful works I've ever read. Based on R.K.Narayan's life, it describes the everyday life of a teacher in those days at first and later deepens into the illness and subsequent death of his wife. The pain of losing someone so loved, of watching her fade away slowly with an illness you cannot do anything about, is touchingly, achingly described, it tears me up to even remember the book now. It's a superb book, a tad bit different from Narayan's other books and everyone should read it.

This book ticches alot on the line betweeen life and death and for me, especially after looosing my mom it signifies continuance and finding joy and happiness even after the loss of death because the body may not be there but the spirit lives on.
