A novel that echoes Winton's book of short stories "The Turning'. With spare yet rich language we follow the experiences of a youth who loves to surf and befriends a couple of risk taking hippies who push him to the edge. He is confronted with major challenges that change his life forever.

This novel is deceptivel easy to read. Somewhat minimalist in its prose it touches on themes that in some way or another have affected everybody who experienced even the most boring of adolescant periods.
Tim Winton could be Australia's finest novelist ever. This book is amazingly accessible considering the abstractness of its topics.
