Beth Donner Walsh is a beautiful married thirty-something with a doting, devoted successful attorney husband and the world in her hands. So why does she have to go out and sleep with every Tom, Dick and Harry that she fancies? What is she missing in her life?

One day while trolling for a bed partner she finds, not the answer to her dilemma, but her worse nightmare in painfully beautiful Abbott Lowery.

Abbott has some serious socialization problems of his own, and his pain and sufferring go just as deep as Beth's, though he manifests them in a more outwardly destructive way than Beth, who is more self-destructive in her quest for love and acceptance.

Abbott is psychotic and a powder keg waiting to explode. When Beth makes the mistake of catching his eye and pursuing him, she has no idea that she has just lit Abbott's fuse. But he will show her, and teach her a "lesson" that she'll never forget.

I really identified and sympathized with Beth. She was vulnerable and human and Reed got inside her character very well.

Of course, he got into the mind of Abbott, the villain, sometimes a little too well. Though I sympathized with him, I still wanted him to get his just desserts in the end for his brutality.

Like Fatal Attraction, this book shows the cons of extramarital sex and infidelity, but goes a lot further in seeing that the "sinner" is punished and is a perfect exploration of the anecdotes "Still waters run deep" and "Beauty is only skin deep".

This was a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat, thriller with equal parts horror and psychological thriller. Not for the weak at heart, but if you're into the genre, then this is the book for you.

    Another winner from, Reed!
