“Loved the music - it shaped my life. Admire the singers. Wasn't crazy about the book. Secondhand hearsay that just went on and on and on. ”

From very different backgrounds, all three went on to create powerful music that spoke directly to women. I found the book as interesting for the author's description of the society of the time - Woodstock, anti-war protests, women's liberation - as for the biographies. One question: Am I the only woman alive in the '60s who did not sleep wIth James Taylor? ”

It was very interesting to learn about the lives that these women led. They created some of the most groundbreaking music in musical history and I never tire of listening to it. I also learned more about the history of those incredible times. ”

Like, I think we'd really get along if we happened to meet at a fundraiser/premiere/whatever. And I didn't hate Carly Simon before this book, and reading this made me appreciate how cool she is. This book falls into the "History" category more than biography category because it reads like a novel, sort of like Bobbed Hair and Bathtub Gin. These are some very cool women with interesting lives, and the writing was great.”

To contextualize what Carole King and Joni Mitchell (and Carly Simon) where doing when they wrote the music that enthralled me was a wonderful experience.”
