Right up my alley- more guilt fodder for how yuppy parents (me) are ruining their kids (Hayden)

Must reading for parents of children/teens. We have to stop being "helicopter parents," hovering over our children and preventing them from growing up.

Insightful and well researched, but not what I was expecting. Her ideas are potent, but this is a book written for affluent parents. She even addresses the reader with assumed parenthood, which I don't have. I was expecting it to be more psychology and less of a parenting manual, so I was disappointed but I'm pretty sure if my expectations were different I would feel much differently.

    This book was excellent.

It is a must read for teachers and parents in affluent neighborhoods. It really picks apart how the "culture of affluence," materialism, the pressures of success and micromanagement by parents negatively affects and in some cases create serious issues for adolescences and young adults.

I found this book browsing in the "howcanIhelpmychild" section of the library. An interesting look into the serious challenges that affluent families (and particularly adolescents) face. This read helped me appreciate the truth that money doesn't buy happiness, the importance of a strong marriage for children, and the influential dangers of a mother's materialistic attitude.

I've just began this interesting take on why so many adolescents from affluent families are suffering from depression, eating disorders, and substance abuse. It was recommended by a current BSA Executive during a discussion on why we are losing so many of our children to these problems.

A great & often sad peek into upscale living that so many people quest after. What are we doing to our kids? A must-read for every parent who says "I only want the best for my child."
