There it sat all by itself on the coffee table. On the nightstand rested a mountain of satire. I picked up The Eyre Affair, The Stupidest Angel, Cold Comfort Farm, tried so hard, but put them all back down. The only reason I got through Holidays on Ice was it's extemely short length. I moved...

It wasn't the kind of mystery that I thought it would be, so I was a little disappointed

The first book of this series was decent. This is the 2nd book and Cain took it up about 4 notches. None of the characters are particularly likeable but they are endlessly entertaining/maddening...gretchen lowell is a seriously creepy serial killer that kept me turning pages until all hours of the night

I moved it to a dark corner of the dining room hutch. Tried to reviist Bonfire of the Vanities. That's when I knew that this series had a serious hold on me,I gave in.

They were all back from Heartsick: Gretchen, Archie, Susan, and Henry. It could easily have been included in the first book. Archie is still on a downward spiral with his pain meds, while Gretcen continues to seduce him from prison. Susan has a new hair color and a new story to chase with Archie that may not be quite so new. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was that it seemed so hopeless for Archie. But I must say that the last quarter of the book was that frantic paced reading where you have to slow yourself down. I haven't quite solved the mystery of why this series has so captivated me. I just know I want Archie to be OK, and that Chelsea Cain could give a money back guarantee for this arc.

I'm going to give one more satire my best effort, Catch 22. But I'm next on the list for Evil at Heart at the library, or worse one click away on my Kindle.

Not as good as the first one in the series...the characters and their actions have become predictable...and I keep hoping for something different. I am hooked on finding out what happens to Archie and "the Beauty Killer" so I will read the 3rd one and keep my fingers crossed that Archie finally comes to his senses. How a man who in most respects comes across as good and honorable can be under the spell of a serial killer is beyond my comprehension. The only excuse I can find for his unforgivable actions is that it must be the influence of all the drugs he's taking. Also, I am hoping the 3rd book will help me figure out what Susan, the reporter, is doing in the series. I could understand her connection in the 1st book, but it's getting stretched pretty thin in this one.

After reading Heartsick, I knew I HAD to keep up on the story. I couldn't put Sweetheart down. The storyline was great. You get to find out so much more about all the characters, specifically the shocking...well, I found it shocking...depth of the relationship between Gretchen and Archie. Loved it!

I was really torn when finishing this book, as I thought the writing was well done and I wanted to speed to the finish. However, the characters just left a bad taste in my mouth.
This is the second book in the series starring Archie, a homicide detective and Gretchen the serial killer who kidnapped and tortured him for 10 days.
There is a side plot which is interesting, but involves another annoying character, reporter Susan Ward. A reporter that gets to investigate right alongside the detectives and is privy to sensitive information just isn't my cup of tea.
Archie, who jeopardizes the lives of his wife and children for the sake of a serial killer, was very unappealing to me.
The best part of the book was the short chapters, where I could either exercise by having to get up and retrieve the book from me throwing it across the room or getting a glass of wine to forget why I kept reading. Yes, I plan on reading the third in this series, Evil at Heart, as I have a review for vine. I am hoping Archie can redeem himself.

Finished this in the wee hours of the morning because I made the mistake of picking it up at bedtime.

This story is so twisted at times my head was spinning. The unfinished case Susan Ward was working on in Heartsick is the main theme in Sweetheart. Archie and Henry are called to the park were a body has been found. While there they find two other bodies. Shortly after Gretchen is attacked in prison and will only talk to Archie. What happens next was brilliant. Gretchen escapes from transport and begins to spread her 'joy' around. The way Chelsea weaves this story is mesmerizing. This series is a must read for people who love psychological thrillers.

    3. Evil At Heart

I really like this series..I just wish the author would let the reader connect with the serial killer..We know her but only through the other characters..Overall, cant wait to read book 3.
