“How did I miss Monster Hunter International all this time?? Holy cow what a fun book! I am not a fan of the romantic vampire genre by any means, so I tend to be wary of urban fantasy books. What a happy surprise to start this book and find that not only are the characters based in real life - they speak and think and react like normal people with some specialized skills, but the monsters are in fact, MONSTERS and not cuddly, fluffy, sparkly morons.
The dialoge is snappy, smart and laugh out loud funny at times. The background info on the way the world works and why is concise and clear and these are people & places & monsters I wanted to know more about with every page. I very much appreciated the author's knowledge of weaponary and proper use of said weapons and the fact that he gave a nod to the Nepal Ghurkas and their weapons & skills. I listened to this book on Audible and the narrator was excellent - he had different accents and speech patterns for the important voices and his timing with the humor was dead on. I loved this book enough that I bought the paperback as well - to send to a family member stationed in Kabul - he will LOVE this book! Off to buy the sequel right now”
