I thought this book was great. It is one man's approach to living a sustainable life. It is funny and a very easy read (while not being boring). It gives the reader further ideas on how they can live a more eco-friendly existence. However, there is no mention of the cost. It is evident that Doug...

This wasn't exactly what I was expecting - I was anticipating more instructional information on how Doug Fine became more sustainable. And while it had some of that, it was mostly story-telling on the bigger things he did when he bought the Funky Butte Ranch. He's an excellent story teller - worth reading, absolutely. Plus, my favorite snack in the world was a recipe from this book!

Two green thumbs up! You don't have to have a + or - opinion of living "green" to appreciate Doug's great wit and earnest endeavors.

Doug Fine is so funny, rather earthy, and totally honest about his mistakes and successes. Great blog, too!

I listened to the author read this on a Playaway. Very thought-provoking and fun read. Beware: he makes no secret of his political leanings! It's fun now to read his blog (www.dougfine.com) and see that he has been able to continue living his sustainable life-style.

The author moves to New Mexico to try to live green. The book is about his adventures to reduce his carbon footprint. He raises goats and chickens, gets a diesel truck and has it converted to run on grease from restaurants, grows veggies in a garden, and puts in a solar water heater. The author is a great story teller and I love the book.

I thought Doug Fine's story was fun and entertaining and somewhat educational and informative. I agree with another reviewer that it became "preachy" at the end. I think its a good read in any case to just open up our minds on what the heck we're actually doing on this planet.. the more I read stuff like this, the more It seems like we're aliens that haven't figured out how to live here... or ourselves.

I thought this book was great. It is one man's approach to living a sustainable life. It is funny and a very easy read (while not being boring). It gives the reader further ideas on how they can live a more eco-friendly existence. However, there is no mention of the cost. It is evident that Doug Fine's "experiment" had a fairly hefty financial backing not available to most people. Apart from that, my only criticism about this book is that Doug tends to go off track a bit. When you start a chapter (and a topic is being introduced) it can take a long time for the topic to be discussed completely as Doug will waft in and out of topic. The book is also full of analogies and that gave me the impression that he was really trying to push the humour approach.
All in all, a great read. I have already lent the book out (I finished it today).
