Definitely a page-turner. I couldn't put it down. Not my usual type of book but I can't wait to continue the series.”

Jack Daniels is back, and her stress level is higher than ever. Her aging mother fell and was not discovered for several days. Jack feels that it may be time for her mom to live with her, as her mom will never agree to live in an assisted living environment. She has not been honest with Jack about the number of times she's fallen which worries Jack.
Jack also has to deal with her partner Herb Benedict and his mid life crisis. With a new car, prescription for Viagra, and a diet that is working, Herb has changed.
A new serial killer is at work in Chicago, and has made it personal. A call from the morgue advises that there are some extra body parts that appeared without any trace. There are two arms that are attached by a pair of handcuffs, and the handcuffs are Jack's. The arms have been bleached, so there is no residue which might be useful in tracking the killer.
We the reader are treated to the killer's thoughts, and we have a good suspicion of who the killer is. Jack and Herb come to the same conclusion, and he is arrested. He comes up with an unusual defense, and it is only due to diligent police work that justice is served. Jack and Herb are the kind of cops you'd like to have on your city force, and though they are efficient police officers, they are also humans with foibles and idiosyncrasies. In just two books, Konrath has carved a name for himself in mystery fiction that is impressive. ”
“Book two in the Jack Daniels mystery series finds Jack embroiled in an even grislier mystery but also has some funny parts when Jack's mom comes to stay with her and her ex-husband shows up again. A good series for those who like their mysteries gritty.”
