While the book is informative and easy to read, the actual structure of the book is all over the place. The subtitle suggests the book is devoted to A Christmas Carol and its influence on how English speaking peoples celebrate Christmas. Its scope is hardly so narrow, ranging from a more than sketchy biography featuring insights into Dickens' influence on copyright law and publishing practices to critical commentary on most of Dickens' oeuvre. Charming, yet dissatisfying, I cannot recommend the book, yet I am glad I read it.
