Heartbreaking to realize slavery is still so prevalent. Not always easy to read but worth the effort.

Made me count my blessings. Modern day slavery seems like a mostly unpoliced crime. The author touches on a few countries. I'm interested to learn about more countries where the practice is prevalent.

Unbelievable; cannot fathom this is 2009. Shocking, informative, outrageous.

    E. Benjamin Skinner hops on a plane to Haiti from New York and only in the span of a few hours is he negotiating the terms with a slave dealer for his own personal young slave. Of course - he does not buy her - but Skinner wants to expose the fact that, especially to Americans, slavery is NOT over and is even taking place in some very twisted households across our country. However, outside of our country slavery is a problem faced by millions of all color, race, age, and sex. This is a human issue - but who is going to care? Skinner cares and offers up just some ways that slavery occurs across this planet.

This is a book that will reveal a window into a world many would rather not know existed. It is maddening to read of so-called enlightened intellegentsia turning a blind eye to this blight in our world today. To consider it an insult to be called a moralist is the height of hypocrisy. To realize and understand that this evil has invaded America is even more intolerable. When entire countries have seen their women enslaved and sold as objects so that others might make illicit profits to feed the vices of other depraved individuals. When other countries condone the outright indenture and enslaving of human beings, how can anyone claim that humanity has progressed? The opposite is true, humanity has continued to degrade, destroy other human beings and what a frightening thought that is. If you are unaware of slavery or desire an inroad into the subject, this book will fill you with dread as well as provide you with a means by which you can help some, even if you cannot help them all.
I hated to award this book with four stars signifying that I liked it. I hated the subject matter even though the book was informative and helpful in gaining a greater understanding of an issue many have no desire to contend with.

The most shocking non-fiction I've read! Deserves to be read by every responsible citizen, especially by the policy-makers all around the world. Ben Skinner is remarkable!
