“Shopgirl, written by Steve Martin, shows the daily life of a young woman by the name of Mirabelle. Martin writes in such a style that puts the reader inside the life of the characters. Mirabelle works in the glove department of an expensive department store and finds it some what suitable. She doesn't have a romantic partner but hopes to find one either at the store or at one of the parties she attends during the night. She has one man in particular that she is interested in but cannot quite seem to get her hands on him. She finds her self almost simple, plain, boring. She things she's nothing special. The one thing she does know is that she can carry on a very great and intellectual conversation and throughout the book you see her use that to the best of her ability.”

Who knew such a comedic great (Steve Martin) could write something so affecting and beautiful. Not only that, it's one of the rare books that's as good as the movie.”

Maybe I'll pick it up again one day when I'm out of better books to read.”

When Ray, a wealthy businessman enters her life, he changes everything. Suddenly Mirabelle is given things she had never been given before. She grows attached to Ray in a way that he could never reciprocate. Meanwhile, Mirabelle is struggling with her feelings for Jeremy, an awkward man who works with amps. The story continues on as Mirabelle is forced to make choices between the two and ultimately ends up with the man of her dreams. This is a great book to have accessible in the classroom. It's a smooth and engaging read for more mature readers. It is a great book for teens struggling with their own feelings.”
