Didn’t Like It“This was a cool book for you if you like dinasaurs. However, I don't really care that much about dinasaurs. I thought by the cover this was going to be a cool fantasy book, but it turned out to be a non-fiction. It was not the worst book I ever read but since I am not really into dinasaur...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“I like the efs”

Hawkins was a scientist, and he used the dinosaur bones that had been discovered and created models of what he thought a dinosaur would look like.
Reason I chose this book: The story is well written and the illustrations are breathtaking. This book is a lot of fun because it takes the readers back to a time when the world had never seen a dinosaur, and I think it is important for students to realize how strange that must be. The book also encourages students to use their imaginations, as Waterhouse had to do, in order to see something that no one else had ever seen before.
Use in the classroom: I would use this with a unit on dinosaurs. I would do a read aloud with my students, and afterward, I would have them create their own dinosaur. They would have to draw it out, determine what it would eat, where it would live, and other things like that. The students would have to research other dinosaurs to make their dinosaur believable (i.e. if the student says that the dinosaur is an herbivore then it won’t have sharp teeth). Then once the students have developed their dinosaurs, they will create their own models of it in clay.

He's at the age where seeing the hero figure out how dinosaurs live and what they looked at is an engaging imaginary problem, and the illustrations and story told in this book are magical, remarkable attractions I hope will help him along. Look for his review when I stop working nights and get to read him bedtime stories...”

The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins is a biographical picture book of artist, Waterhouse Hawkins. It shows his triumphs and talents, the obstacles he encountered and even a real life villain who tried to destroy his dream. The artistic drawings tells the story just as much as the words in this book. Though it is very short (you can finish it in one sitting), it is worth your money - because you will keep reading and rereading it. A very nicely written, well-illustrated book that can be loved by both children and adults, this book will make both you and your kids smile and cry.”

I was picking through some books and saw a hint of this book's spine, grabbed it out and never put it back, it came straight home with me. From the cover to the illustrations to the story this is a must have children's illustrated book for any lover of vintage works, a Harry Potter Buff, Wizard Fan, Museum Buff or just anyone who likes the odd and world of ecclectic stories.
Its about Mr. Waterhouse Hawkins, a lecturer who exhibits his rare dinosaur collection all over the place. Its museum meets sideshow, and everything in between, such a cute book!”
