Glossary

  • Weir: A person belonging to any of the magical guilds, and therefore possessing magical powers due to the weirstone behind their breastbones.
  • Weirstones: The magicals stones found within the chests of the weir. The type of stone determines which guild he/she will belong to.
  • Magical Guilds: There are numerous types of Weir and these include, seers, sorcerers, enchanters, warriors, and wizards.
  • Anaweir: A person who does not have a weirstone or magical powers.
  • Elicitor: One who possesses a different type of power that allows one to draw the magic from others. Does not have a weirstone, and is considered Anaweir.
  • Weirsbane: A potion made to suppress one's powers.
  • Houses: Most of the magical world professes allegiance to one of the two Houses. These are the Red Rose, led by Wylie and the White Rose led by Jessamine Longbranch. Beginning in the second book of the trilogy, many people also claim independence, or being a follower of the Dragon.
  • Sefa: A magical item that gives off certain extra powers and is created by sorceres. Readers are most familiar with the dyrne sefa that Jason Haley uses to perform his unnoticeable charm.
  • MindBurner: A magical drug that enhances one's powers, but not without side effects.
  • Raven's Ghyll: The center of the magic. Previously where the tournaments were held, and by this book, where D'Orsay is "hiding".
