“Very interesting book. I found the author to be a little verbose for my taste, but I suspect that is in his nature based on his profession. The story itself is fascinating, as is the research the author has done to give a complete picture of the journey of Chris/Alex. I appreciated that the author did not "sugarcoat" the situation to make Chris/Alex out to be a hero, but at the same time gave him the benefit of the doubt. I would recommend this to others that like non-fiction and/or camping/hiking/outdoorsy-type accounts.”

“I very much enjoyed this book mostly because it makes you look at yourself and what you value in life. It is very sad that Chris McCandless died in such a gruesome way, but you can not help but feel that he was living in his dreams in his last few months. I disagree with anyone who believes that his death was a result of his incompetence and ignorance in the wilderness of Alaska.”

“Into the wild is a vary inspirational story about a young boy trying to better himself. I enjoyed this book because it really opened my eyes to what people take for granted, and how material things are unfulfilling. Even though it is tragic, it really inspires me to travel. ”

“This book is more for the upper middle school grades and would be great for a coming-of-age unit. This book has so many fantastic characters and it is based on a true story so kids could do a project on an alternative ending to the story if Alex had survived and not eaten the poisonous berry. Students could also keep their own journal while reading this book. Would be a great way to show the importance of keeping a journal; so the world knows about all of our adventures!”
