A great work of non-fiction, the second time i have read this book. First time was on train ride through the US in 1997. Very moving account of an idealistic young man who got into trouble in Alaska while trying to survive amongst the elements. Very well crafted, retracing his steps through the accounts of the people he met on his journey. A classic trave-adventure story.

After watching the film, I fell in love with Christopher McCandless' story. This book contains hidden treasures that, sometimes, conflict the film. Interesting read!

I don't know what possessed me to read this. I was camping and I guess something came over me.

It took me a while to get into this - at first I felt more like some of the people who wrote to the author about this story, who were more annoyed than sympathetic that someone would behave so recklessly. However by the end I was truly moved by the story and saddened by the loss.

This book focuses mainly on the travels of one character all over and to alaska but also those who have traveled with similar characteristics or storys. It jumps from one extreme to another and is hard to follow. If strange accurrances and traveling dosen't intrest you, i wouldn't recommend it but it was recommended to me by my principal when he noticed me reading another book about hiking. I didn't particularly favor this book at all, but many of my guy friends love it. It is one of those books that i feel guys relate and appreciate more.
