This is my all time favorite book of all time! I read this book when I was in middle school and from that day forward Isaac Asimov became my favorite author. The book in my opinion has a great pace and it literally made me want to keep turning the pages and not put it down. I read this book in two days and that weekend in middle school and when I found it later as an adult I bought two versions of the book (paperback and hardback) and have read it several times, love this book!

8/13/10 wow...wow...WOW. No science fiction novel has engrossed me this much since His Dark Materials - loved everything about it, from the story to the style to the characters!!! A lot better than I, Robot, too. (Thanks so much to Thiago for recommending this!!!)

Although this is the first novel to be read in the Foundation series, it was actually written many years after Foundation, which Asimov wrote when he was twenty-one.
This perfectly lays down the, no pun intended, foundation of what is to come.
    Again, brilliant.

The Foundation series (there are seven books in all though the three originals - _Foundation_, _Foundation and Empire_, and _Second Foundation_ - are the best of the series) is classic sci-fi and some of Asimov’s best. His characters are rather flat, his plots bog down in ideas and are rather short on action. That being said, these books can still thrill you if you’ve never read them and if you’re a sci-fi fan, you will probably love them. Asimov reminds us that history repeats itself and this a _Decline and Fall_ set in the future. This book is the prequel to the entire series.

Started reading this classic sci-fi series in 2008-2009. This was the first one I started with. I enjoyed this one the most. A very interesting fast paced story.

A brilliant and imaginative prelude that takes place on a fantastic world almost too amazing to believe even in fiction. Big adventure, suspense and mystery.
