Officer Rick Chandler will do anything to avoid his mother's matchmaking schemes. As well as those of the well meaning townspeople, who seem to want this divorced man hooked up again.

When he rescues a runaway bride fleeing from her wedding, he hatches an ingenious plan - he has Kendall Sutton pose as his intended to keep the rest of the single ladies who constantly resort to placing erroneous 911 calls to get his attention at bay. She agrees, as it will keep her off the meat market as well. Of course neither counts on falling for the other.

Phillips follow up to "The Bachelor" is actually more lightweight than the first offering, with an incredible lack of depth and undeveloped characters. But there is plenty of steam to keep the reader turning the pages, and Phillips infuses some pretty funny situations into this installment (the scene in the beauty shop is hysterical).
A fun read...

This book was my first experience with reading Carly Phillips. I didn't realize it was the second in the trilogy about the brothers until a little ways in and I didn't want to stop reading by then just to get the first book out of the way before reading onward!

The book is pretty predictable, like most chick lit at this level, but I was pleased with the quick read and will be checking out the other works by this author. I felt that the characters were well-developed and quite witty in some cases. They displayed emotion and "realness" - a nice treat! The plot was beyond basic and did include some fun twists.

I do recommend this book. I made me laugh several times and I look forward to reading about the other brothers and their searches for true love!

`The Playboy' by Carly Phillips is the second book of the Chandler Brothers trilogy. This tells the story of police chief and run-away bride. The sub-plot of his mother who fakes a heart problem so all her sons will marry has some fun twist. The Chandler Brothers trilogy is Bachelor (1), Playboy (2) and Heartbreaker (3).
Great read!

I really enjoyed this book. This book is great for the beach or a rainy or lazy day. The characters kept me wanting to read more. I read the first book in the trilogy (The Bachelor) and can't wait to read the third book.
Thoroughly Fun

After reading the first book of the Chandler trilogy (The Bachelor), I wasn't expecting much. So much to my surprise that I found myself thoroughly enjoying this encounter with the middle brother.

Both Rick and Kendall are entertaining characters that you can feel their struggles and fears and love. I absolutely loved the antics of Kendall, alone and with her sister, and I felt the struggle as she tried to help her sister, Hannah. Also the couple `living in sin' were really fun and quirky characters.

I found myself zipping through this book, which was a welcome surprise, since I had to force myself a few times to get through the Bachelor.

This is the quirkiest of the trilogy and by far the most enjoyable. A solid 5 out of 5.
