Liked It“Had this been written by another author, I would have given up about 1/4 way through. I agree with those who said the first half of the book was long-winded, too much back story & exposition. |
Didn’t Like It“The message of the Cross was lost in the account of the character of Brady Wayne Grady. If indeed the story of Peter being crucified on a cross was true, he asked that his cross be inverted not to imitate Christ. |
“Loved it”

That said, I am glad I endured and finished the book. Not only was I crying through much of the 2nd half of the book, but when I finished the book & was ready to turn off my lamp, I glanced at the clock and did a double-take. It was 3:16 am. I hit the floor, kneeling & sobbing beside my bed. This book produced emotions in me that I cannot fully explain let alone understand for myself.
In the end, I found myself having compassion where I often have little or none. This is a big step for me.
I do not understand why some thought it was "predictable" and others said it could never happen. People forget that truth is stranger than fiction. I found both characters to be completely within the realm of reality. I know people in my life that were represented in both Brady & Pastor Carey.
However, I do understand the blasphemy statement about the crucifixion part. I was conflicted about this as well for a little while. I really had to process it. While I was reading it, I reflected not only on Brady's pain in the moment, but I could see Jesus too. And anyone who would choose such a horrible way to die...I just can't imagine it, but most of us will never have to choose and certainly never endure any amount of physical torture, so we need reminders of Christ's sacrifice so we don't take it for granted.
And now I have to stop writing before I end up in tears again. I am not emotionally recovered from this book...nor do I want to be fully recovered from it. I believe that God used this book to show me my purpose...or at least a part of my purpose...and I am praying, seeking, & pursuing. ”
“A very good story!”

I was fully invested in the story when the big twist occurred but it was a bit of a stretch. Great book though. A but long winded in parts, but that wasn't too much of a problem for me. If you want a good story about redemption then pick this up.”

I thought the book was too predictable but continued to read the entire book because it was the topic of our next book club.”
