“A startling non fiction novel in both content and execution. It takes a bleak humanist look at the world of law enforcement and the crime that feeds it introducing us to a string of tenuously linked tragedies with little hope for change yet somehow it is a gripping read, it is an enjoyable read. The real life men and women of Baltimore's police department are all incredibly interesting characters and tackle their vicious vocation with such humour and vigour that it's hard not to be drawn in with them.
As clear and as compelling a look at the human condition as the series it spawned to unparalleled success”
“Fantastic insight into the workings of a major Homicide dept. Author's notes at the end are equally fascinating.”

This is the book Homocide: Life on the Streets and The Wire are based on. ”
“He is the writer behind 'The Wire'. One of the best thing to be shown on TV. I look forward to reading his new novel. ”

All was right with the world. I love David Simon, the creator of the Wire, and this book provides a lot of anecdotes that he would use in that series. I love this book.”

One of my favorite non-fiction books. I read this book in 2 days and basically could NOT put it down. Simon is a terrific writer who mixes a reporter's accurate and clear journalistic style with a highly entertaining, creative, and dramatic writing voice. The subject is engaging in the way of all true-crime and real-life drama and handled by Simon in a very intelligent, well-researched manner. An EXCELLENT BOOK! If you like CSI, true-crime, or police detective stories, then you will definitely enjoy "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets." ”
“A massive tome detailing a year in the life of the Baltimore Police Department's Homicide division, I read it in one day. If you're a fan of The Wire, Homicide will be well-worn ground, but still well worth reading.”
