“Every writer will have his or her bias even if he or she is proclaiming to objective. But I think Ehrman did a very good job of developing his thesis, despite if he's a agnostic, atheist, or Christian. The analysis is very well developed in that the Bible and it protagonist are very ambivalent about the role of suffering. The issue of suffering points squarely to the question of the divine hiddeness of "God." That fact the almighty doesn't respond to suffering again begs the question about his existence.”
“I don't think the book is biased at all. And things are definately not taken out of context. I think the people who believe things are taken out of context are just ignoring the "facts" in the bibble. Let's just ignore major parts of the bible... let's not bring them to light... But of course, we have to because there's no explaining them any other way than the way it is written. The truth is, there is no explaining suffering in the eyes of God. Except for "just because.Who said God had to be the one described in the Judeo-Christian religion (Ehrman)? Of course the Judeo-Christians...It's like the saying, "who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes...? = What we think it means, or what is written? Are we to wait for the new testament part 3? The Old testament (#1), the new testament(#2) and in the future, "What God Really Meant, But the Writers Got Wrong...(#3).”
“Ehrman's book is far from scholarly. He doesn't own up to his own biases. He calls himself an agnostic in this book, then continues to "prove" how the Judeo-Christian God cannot be 'his' God, or even a logical God to believe in. This in my opinion, would not make him truly a-gnostic. He continues throughout this book to quote scripture (out of context) to prove his point. This is annoyingly frusterating since he is doing the very thing that he complains about in his other books - taking scripture out of context. Overall, don't waste your time if you are wanting to truly learn about the biblical perspectives on suffering - this book is far too baised. ”
