This book could use some editing. It is too long and too repetitive. Still, the story is compelling and the chapters written from the perspective of the dog are heartwarming.

This is a really really great book...I kept thinking this book could be a classic someday. It's a long one, but really captures the relationship between the boy and the bond with his dogs....I could read it again, it's so good!

Splendid portrayal of the main character. The plot is enthralling and gripping, and curiosity is present throughout. Overall, you will never want to get your hands off until the very last page!

So far I am really enjoying the story. Two of my friends have already finished the story and they are patiently waiting for me to finish.

I thought this book started out fantastic, however, it took me forever to get through it. It was just a really tough read for me as many parts were slow moving. I was amazed at how well Edgar adapted to life with his handicap. The book was way too long and the ending disappointing. It slowed down for me half way into it and then picked up again when Edgar left home with the dogs and tried to make it on his own. Overall it was an excellent and endearing story! I'm glad I read it.

I enjoyed this book although it was a difficult read at times because the storyline would diverge into another direction. There were metaphysical aspects to the story that were somewhat annoying, but the resonance of Edgar's relationship to his dogs more than made up for any annoyance in character or plot. I have to say that my interest never lagged or failed in my following through in finishing the book. Overall the book proved to be a worthwhile read.

Excellent book with strong detail regarding regarding farm life in the upper midwest. The author displays his significant knowledge of dogs and the whole breeding process.

Excellent story...but it could have been just as enjoyable with about 100 fewer pages. Way toooo much description for my liking! Dogs, okay, we get the idea...but we don't need to know everything there is to raising, training, breeding, etc.

What an amazing book! I loved the discussion of the dog training because that was really at the heart of the book...it was what helped Edgar come to terms with life. I don't think there could have been any other ending. Claude set things rolling and the ending is then unavoidable. I would have preferred an unrealistic ending because I loved the other characters so, but it really was the only ending that would make the author's point.

It took me quite a while to like this book, but I'm glad I persevered. I got hooked way at the end, during the chapter called "Wind". I admit I had looked at some other Shelfari reviews and was a bit prepared for the ending.
