I didn't look at this book thoroughly when I picked it up from the library. Originally, I thought it was a fiction book. Instead, its a wonderful memoir written by the youngest daughter of Anne and Charles Lindbergh as she's turning 60. Oftentimes I find books written about women 50+ to be...

This is a book my bookclub chose to read. I read the first 40 pages or so and am not going to make myself finish it. It is a book about a middle aged woman (actually, I think she is now in her 60's) and her experiences getting to where she is in life. It's too depressing and sad for me to read about having an empty nest and spreading loved one's ashes and other such things she's writing about. I don't even have kids, yet. I know all of this is to be expected and that is part of life, I just am having a hard time reading about it when I haven't even been able to experience having kids, yet and other such things. And, I don't get why what the author has to say is important, but that may because I can't completely relate. I wouldn't have chosen this book on my own and I wouldn't recommend it for someone younger than middle age.

My first reading of a work by Reeve Lindbergh. It's like receiving a letter from a good friend. Highly recommend.

I didn't look at this book thoroughly when I picked it up from the library. Originally, I thought it was a fiction book. Instead, its a wonderful memoir written by the youngest daughter of Anne and Charles Lindbergh as she's turning 60. Oftentimes I find books written about women 50+ to be depressing because they focus so much on what the woman is losing, can no longer do, or the perceived inevitable decline. About to turn 50 myself and not believing that decline is inevitable I find such diatribes depressing and uninteresting. However, Ms. Lindbergh's memoir is nothing like that. Its charming, life embracing, and filled with observations and remembrances that capture the reader's attention and soul. I've read a lot of memoirs so far this year and this is now one of my favorites.

Reeve, the daughter of Charles Lindbergh and Anna Morrow Linbergh is a fine writer. Her writing reminds me of her mother's writing. Gentle, wry and insightful.

The author's clear, consistent, honest voice comes through in these essays about home and family, reading and writing, pets and friends. Midway through the book Lindbergh tells about a very significant event, her brain tumor; and near the end, her father's three secret families. She hasn't had such an ordinary life like most of us; however, she describes fears and joys most easily understand.
A refreshing read people my age can identify with.

I just wish I lived down the street from the author. Her writing makes me feel like I've known her forever and it seems like we have so many things in common. A joy to read.
