An eccentric elderly lady, a crumbling English country manor, and family secrets. These elements drew me to the book. Told in first person by said elderly woman, we learn the story of her family, especially their fascination with...wait for it...moths! Now there's a hook! As the story unfolds, the reader realizes page by page that Ginny is not all she seems to be. Yes, she's eccentric and knows too much about moths, but something is just not right. I was dissapointed by this one. I held on to it for a car trip and hoped to be sucked into a great mystery or creepy story. I read it in one day and it held my interest although I did have to skip through LONG descriptions about moths, etc. The ending is not so shocking if you are paying attention. Although it did leave my feeling creeped out, it didn't stick . . . I think that it would have been better if we could have heard from the sister's point of view as well.

This is a brilliant debut novel from British author Poppy Adams. Truly ambitious and it doesn't fall short in the slightest. Suspenseful and puzzling, beware that this will keep you reading well past bedtime. I can't wait to read more from her and will definitely be following her closely.
