I recommend this to all students that I interact with - suggests that the city you choose after graduation is more important than the job you choose. Some of the examples are not as valuable, but the parts that are applicable to my world are very helpful and thought-provoking.

A few interesting insights, but nothing overly exciting.

Some of Florida's analysis is interesting, but overall the book flowed poorly. The entire section at the beginning in which Florida argues for the coming importance of "mega regions" seemed entirely unrelated to the thesis of the book. Plus, ranking the best cities for one thing or another is always dubious and open to interpretation. By the end I was left wondering why I even read the book. If it was designed to be a tool to help me figure out which cities might be a good fit for me, it didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know.

I love the place I grew up and have been worrying about whether I should go back and live there or if I should try someplace completely new. Am I going to like anyplace as much as home?

This book set me in the right direction so I can logically consider what cities to try on and see if they fit. :) Also a humorous and fun read.

A new way of looking at where we live - the author is correct in asserting that many of us live where we do by accident, not by design.

I really enjoyed this book. I found it very informative and well written. Perfect for people trying to figure out where in the country/world they want to live.

Richard is a provocative thinker and always presents fascinating insights on cities and how place affects our well-being. This book continues the tradition, as he discusses why, contrary to popular belief, place matters more than ever in the age of globalization, how and why clustering happens in certain geographies, and the relationship between where one lives and happiness. I highly recommend the book.
